!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reports that a Pegasus Airlines flight from Kharkov, Ukraine to Istanbul, Turkey, received a threat from a passenger claiming to have a bomb and demanding the flight travel to Sochi, Russia, site of the just-opened 2014 Winter Olympics. The passenger appeared to be carrying a detonator and attempted to enter the cockpit. The flight crew broadcasted a hijacking signal, leading to the scrambling of Turkish F-16s and the flight landed safety in Istanbul. As of the latest report, Turkish authorities are searching the aircraft and the passengers for anything suspicious.

Meh, don't think of it that way. This was clearly meant to be an attack on the opening ceremony, which would be devastating. But besides the closing ceremonies, there is no time in between that an attack would be nearly as catastrophic.

All the same, it doesn't have to be devastating to be successful. Olympic Village too hard a target? Hit something softer. I want to be optimistic, but considering the scope of the event and supporting sites, let alone regional transportation hubs nearby, guaranteed something'll break off.

i doubt the guy who was trying to hijack the plane would be able to distinguish if he was actually flying over Sochi or a city in Eastern Europe. As far as finding the ceremonies or whatever if he did manage to get the plane there... good luck on that too.

I flew a plane once and it was one of the most disorienting experiences I've ever experienced. Knowing where you are, how far you are from any given object/location and how far things are from each other is something that is hard to wrap your head around.
